NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home

Please sign up early to assure your place. Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense. We also offer the Instructor version. Prerequisite This class is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm). Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the pre-class assessment. Description

  • An 8-hour class.
  • Expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition.

Students will learn:

  • how to choose a handgun for self-defense

  • Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet
  • Class completion certificate

Note: Lesson III of this class, Firearms and the Law, and Legal Aspects of Self-Defense, is conducted by an attorney licensed to practice law within the state in which this class is given and who is familiar with this area of the law, or a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) who possesses an intermediate or higher Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certificate granted within the state, or an individual currently certified to instruct in this area of the law by the state in which this class is presented. NRA Certified Instructors may conduct this lesson only if they meet the requirements stated above and then only in their capacity as an attorney, or other state certified individual not in their capacity as an NRA Certified Instructor.

NRA Basic Range Safety Officer

Develops NRA Certified Range Safety Officers with the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations. We also offer the Chief version. Description

  • 9 hours long

Range Safety Officer candidates will learn:

  • roles and responsibilities of an RSO
  • Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • range inspection
  • range rules
  • range briefings
  • emergency procedures
  • firearm stoppages and malfunctions

Each Range Safety Officer Candidate will receive:

  • RSO Student Study Guide
  • Basic Firearm Training Program brochure
  • NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure
  • Class Evaluation form

NRA Basic Rifle Shooting

Please sign up early to assure your place. Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe use of a rifle in target shooting. We also offer the Instructor version. Description

  • At least 14 hours long.

Locations:

  1. Class at our store here – starts at 9 a.m.
  2. Range at location about 2 miles west of Tahlequah

Students learn:

  • NRA’s rules for safe gun handling
  • rifle parts and operation
  • ammunition
  • shooting fundamentals
  • range rules
  • shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing, and kneeling positions
  • cleaning
  • continued opportunities for skill development

Students will receive:

  • Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook
  • NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure
  • Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet
  • Class completion certificate

NRA Home Firearm Safety

Non-shooting class that teaches students the basic knowledge, skills, and to explain the attitude necessary for the safe handling and storage of firearms and ammunition in the home. We also offer the Instructor version. Description

  • A 4-hour class for safe gun handling.

Location:

  • Conducted in the classroom only at our store here – starts at 9 a.m.

Students are taught:

  • NRA’s 3 rules for safe gun handling
  • primary causes of firearms accidents
  • firearm parts
  • how to unload certain action types
  • ammunition components
  • cleaning
  • care
  • safe storage of firearms in the home
  • the benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports

Students will receive:

  • NRA Home Firearm Safety handbook
  • NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure
  • Basic Firearm Training Program brochure
  • Class completion certificate

NRA Refuse To Be A Victim®

Please sign up early to assure your place. Teaches strategies people can integrate into their everyday lives to avoid becoming a victim of crime. Description

  • Presented as either a complete seminar or a modified (shortened) seminar
  • Complete seminar may last as long as 4 to 5 hours and include the entire lesson plan
  • Modified seminar may be as short as 1 to 2 hours and cover topics that best suit the needs of a particular audience.

This is not a firearms instruction class, and does not include instruction in physical combat self-defense. Seminars teach common weaknesses that criminals may take advantage of and a variety of corrective measures that are practical, inexpensive, and easy to follow. The seminar includes classroom instruction on:

  • criminal psychology, automobile crimes;
  • cyber safety, home security, and a variety of crime prevention strategies, including carjack avoidance techniques, use of personal safety devices, and more.

NRA-NMLRA Basic Muzzleloading Shooting

Please sign up early to assure your place. Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a muzzleloading guns. We also offer the Instructor version. Description

  • Instructors may focus on one specific discipline or a combination of disciplines.
  • Minimum of 12 hours in length.

Class includes:

  • classroom instruction
  • time on a range

Locations:

Shooting will be of:

  • muzzleloading rifle
  • muzzleloading shotgun

NRA Basic Pistol Instructor

Sessions include standard operating procedures, inspections, emergency procedures, firearm stoppages and malfunctions, safety briefings. Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises and complete an open book exam. Students will receive:
